テレビ広告を見て、売れているかどうかを誰でも判断できる方法がある。それが、スポットでＫＯＷＡが流れているかどうか。風邪薬とかのＫＯＷＡだ。なぜＫＯＷＡの有無が判別材料になるかというと、ＫＯＷＡの契約というのは特殊で、「いつでもどこでも空いている広告枠にテレビ局の都合で勝手に入れてくれていいですよ、そのかわり通常よりかなり安い単価しか払いませんよ」という種類の広告だ。テレビ局にしてみれば、埋める広告がないとき、タダよりはましかという感覚。一方、広告主からすれば、薬という老若男女、いっさいターゲットを問わない商品だからこその契約形態だろう。なので、テレビを見ていて、自社の番宣、ＫＯＷＡが続いているようなら、かなり厳しいということになる。
